New Store in Keene Markets Green Energy Systems to Homeowners

KEENE, NH – The new Green Energy Options (GEO) Solar Store in Keene will hold its Grand Opening on Saturday, April 28th to debut its renewable energy and sustainable living products. GEO will sell solar panels to create electricity; solar hot water systems for radiant heating and household hot water; Energy Star and other high-efficiency household appliances; wood, pellet and bio-fuel stoves; green living books and magazines; educational toys; wood-fired hot tubs; and other items to help homeowners in the Monadnock region learn about and achieve energy independence.

Owner Pablo Fleischmann says his 20 years experience with renewable energy in his own home prompted him to open the store after visiting the Putney Solar Store. Green Energy Options and the Putney store are affiliated with the USA Solar Store “family” of stores based in Vermont. Fleischmann says his residential-sized wind turbines, micro-hydro electric, and photovoltaic (solar) energy systems will give homeowners greater peace of mind in this age of rising fuel prices and rolling brownouts as well as greater energy reliability in New Hampshire’s harsh winters when storms can knock out power for hours or even days on end. Fleischmann adds that since home energy creation is one of the greatest contributors to CO2 pollution, alternative energy is also a significant step every family can take in reducing global climate change.

GEO will provide businesses and consumers an opportunity to purchase and view products that promote and add to their ability to save on energy costs at the same time knowing that they are helping to relieve our dependence on foreign energy sources. GEO is a source for technical support, system design, installations and general information regarding up-to-date sources for renewable energy and conservation products and methods. GEO will also offer expertise in an area that no one in the region offers. Not only a place to purchase and receive information, but also a place people can come to touch, use and understand the products. GEO will also provide an opportunity for remote homeowners to attain energy self-reliance.

Pablo Fleischmann has a long history with renewable energy. He was twenty-two years old when he moved to New Hampshire to live with his wife Valerie in a “backwoods” situation. He designed and built his family’s four-bedroom, off-the-grid home. “We hauled water, cooked on a woodstove and read by candlelight in our non-electric home. After having two children, it was time to “upgrade,” he says. “We purchased a gas stove, a gas refrigerator and started buying components for a solar-electric (photovoltaic; PV) system. On Labor Day of 1989, I hooked up our first light bulb. With many upgrades since, our house now supports lighting, running water, heat, and music throughout.”

Having been a painting contractor for over twenty years, his body was telling him it was time for a change. In his Green Energy Options store, Pablo found something to blend all of his talents and experiences into a new career. “Opening a Solar Store is my attempt at doing something personally meaningful, while making a difference in the world. The time is right and people are finally seeing the ramifications of our energy use. I will be able to show them ways to make a statement, feel good about their contribution, reduce their energy ‘footprint’ and save money at the same time.” Fleischmann also says that educating people about the benefits (and the growing necessity) of using green power will be just as important as having a place to get these products out to mainstream homeowners.

“Renewable energy systems have had steady growth nationally as well as internationally,” Fleischmann says. “With the steady rise in oil prices as well as the strong, growing awareness of the impacts of our current oil-based energy needs, people are seeking ways to positively contribute to more locally-based renewable energy sources--while saving money. Environmental concern over global climate change alone is encouraging utilization of clean environmentally friendly technologies and systems to meet basic human needs and comforts. The federal government provides tax incentives toward renewable energy systems for both homeowners and businesses and the State of NH has been actively working on legislation that will continue to add to NH resident’s ability to afford systems.”

Geo will partner in this venture with The Sustainability Project (TSP), a non-profit educational organization promoting environmental stewardship; inclusive, caring communities; and ways of living in harmony with nature. GEO and TSP will maintain a mutually supportive relationship, where TSP will provide educational outreach.
